Balanced Scoring Sends WP to Win at Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Six Warner Pacific players scored in double figures to send the Knights to a 96-78 win over Corban tonight in CCC play.

The Short Story

The visiting Knights rebounded from a tough loss at NCU last night with a comfortable win at Corban on Saturday. WP scorched the nets in the first half, hitting 24 of 34 field goal attempts with numerous players contributing to the scoring. A 14-0 run by the Knights blew the game open, and WPC eventually led by 25 points at halftime (58-33). Corban was able to find better looks at the basket in the 2nd half, but could not find an answer for Warner Pacific's offense as the gap would reach a high of 34 points (85-51). De'Jon Bowman scored a team high 20 points on 8 of 9 shooting, and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Xavier Cannefax made all five of his shot attempts, adding 11 points. Earl Jones (13), Collin Malcolm (14), Taylor Young (11), and Keaton Bankofier (10) also scored in double figures. Corban was led by Cyrus Ward with a game high 21 points.

How it Happened

• The teams had little trouble scoring in the opening minutes - Corban made their first four shots while the Knights converted six in row to start the game.
• A close contest seemed to be in store after a three pointer from the Warriors' Caleb Herzberg made the score 25-22 in favor of WPC.
• 14 straight points by the Knights sparked by seven consecutive points from Collin Malcolm made the score 39-22 in less than three minutes of game time.
• WP continued to pull away and punctuated the first half with a three pointer at the buzzer from Spencer Bankofier, which sent the visitors into the locker room with a commanding 58-33 lead.
• Warner Pacific cooled down somewhat in the second period, but was still able to extend their advantage. A three-point play from Bowman gave the Knights their largest lead of the game (85-51) with 10:14 left in the game.
• Corban managed to find their shooting touch toward the end of the game, and finished the night with a robust percentage of 49.2 (29 of 59).
