Shooting Struggles Continue for WP Ladies in Loss to Warriors

SALEM, Ore. - Warner Pacific experienced a 2nd quarter swoon, and Corban took advantage as the Warriors send the Knights to a 69-58 loss in Salem on Saturday night.

The Short Story

Warner Pacific has struggled to score the ball with any consistency lately, and a Cascade Conference game at Corban perpetuated the trend. WP finished the contest with a 33 percent shooting rate, including a meager 4 of 16 effort in the pivotal 2nd quarter where Corban outscored the Knights 24-9. That allowed the Warriors to enjoy an 11 point lead at halftime (36-25). The teams battled to a draw in the second half, but WPC could not cut the gap to less than eight points.

How it Happened

• WPC looked strong to start the game, building a 9-4 lead after Kasara Brandenburg scored inside.
• Daesha Jackson drained a three pointer to end the 1st period, giving the Knights a 16-12 advantage.
• The 2nd quarter was all Corban as the Knights went cold, and the Warriors went on an 8-0 run to start the period.
• After Brett Larson converted in the paint with 1:05 left until halftime, Corban scored five straight to go in front by 11 at the break.
• The Warriors extended their lead in the 3rd quarter to as many as 17 points after Annie Owen made a layup and was fouled at the 2:04 mark.
• Fighting back in the 4th quarter, Kyeli Hendrix drove through the lane and scored to cut the gap down to 10 points (59-49) with 4:31 to play, but WP could draw no closer.

Notable

• The Knight sit in 5th place in the CCC halfway throught the league schedule with a record of 6-4
• Daesha Jackson made all four of her free throw attempts and continues to lead the entire NAIA in free throw percentage at 93.6.
