PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific overcame a slow start to claim a comfortable 81-59 win over Douglas College, the second win for the Knights over Douglas in as many nights.
The visiting Royals were determined to make a better showing for the second contest between the two teams, and jumped to an 8-0 lead out of the gate. WPC continued to struggle scoring the ball for much of the first half which allowed Douglas to build a 27-17 lead with 6:56 on the clock.
The Knights chipped away at the gap, eventually taking a one point lead (34-33) on a layup from
Collin Malcolm with .21 second left. Douglas answered with a bucket from Malcolm Mensah as time expired to take the slim advantage into the break.
The second half belonged to WPC, as the home team found enough easy looks at the rim to shoot 53%. Meanwhile, Douglas struggled with the Knight zone defense and made just 4 of 14 attempts from three point range and 10 of 25 tries overall.
Bryce White led all players with 25 points, and added 6 assists.
Collin Malcolm contributed 11 points and a team high 14 rebounds.
Douglas was paced by Malcolm Mensah with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
