PORTLAND, Ore. - Tyler Hieb hit a 3-pointer plus a foul shot for a four point play with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift visiting Oregon Tech past Warner pacific 84-82 Friday night at Bart Valentine Court.
It was a bitter result for the host Knights who were in the driver's seat for much of the game and led by as many as eight points in the second half.
After Joel Yellow Owl tied the game in the opening minute of the second period, WPC ran out to a 50-42 lead and kept it for the next eight minutes. OIT fought back and took a 78-77 lead on a Yellow Owl jump shot with 1:10 to play. The Knights responded with a three pointer and a pair of free throws from
Zack Gonzales to go ahead 82-78, but the visiting Owls scored six straight to close the game including the four-point play from Hieb to earn the win.
Charles Honest muscled inside for 19 points to lead WPC - his best effort in a Knight uniform. Gonzales contributed 17 points including three makes from distance.
Yellow Owl led all players with 22 points.
