Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Seasons Ends for WPC With 80-68 Loss to Davenport

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - Warner Pacific men's basketball ended their season with a 80-68 loss to Davenport in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Div. II National Tournament today at Keeter Gymnasium.

The Knights could not find their scoring touch, connecting on just 38 percent of their field goal attempts including a 9 of 30 effort from the three point line.

Davenport got off to a quick start after a 2-point shot gave the Panthers the four point advantage. The lead would stay in the 6-9 point range for most of the first 15 minutes of the game. Kevin Rich made a layup to give the Panthers an 11 point advantage with 6:26 left in the half.

Warner Pacific would answer with a 15-2 run over a minute and a half span to tie the game at 26. But a 7-1 run by the Panthers would push the lead back to six with 1:30 left in the first half. Davenport finished the half on a 15-4 run to lead by 11 (41-30) at the break.

The Panthers started the second half right where they left off in the first half by scoring ten of the first 14 points to extend their lead to 17. WP responded with a 10-1 run to get within seven with 5:45 left to play. Any hope of completing the comeback ended for the Knights as Davenport would get its lead back to 15 after an 8-1 run.

Franky Johnson made his first appearance in several weeks and led Warner Pacific with 14 points off the bench. Taylor Young and Earl Jones added 13 points each. De'Jon Bowman tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds. Collin Malcolm brought down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Three Davenport players recorded double-doubles – Dominez Burnett (game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds), Kevin Rich (15 points and 10 rebounds) and John McCloud (12 points and 10 rebounds). Nick Gamble scored 16 points and Wayne Bradford tallied 10 points in the win. The Panthers converted of 43 percent (28-of-65) of their shots and 3-of-21 (14 percent) from downtown.
