WP Volleyball Sweeps Multnomah for CCC Win

PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific hosted cross-town foe Multnomah to kick off the 2016 CCC schedule, and came away with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-17) sweep in front of a sizeable crowd inside C.C. Perry Gym.

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 3, Multnomah 0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-17)
• Records: WPC (1-1, 1-0 CCC), MU (3-2, 0-1 CCC)
• Location: C.C. Perry Gym, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific defeated Multnomah in straight sets tonight at C.C. Perry Gym. The Knights were on their heels initially versus the improved Lion squad, but took control of the match toward the latter stages. Led by Janessa White's 16 kills versus just one error, WPC attacked the net for a .386 percentage when all was done. Multnomah managed just a .156 hitting efficiency.

How it Happened

• After exchanging points until the score read 3-3 in set one, it was the visitors that opened up a big lead thanks to a 7-0 run behind the serving of Miranda Halverson.
• The Knights recovered and started to earn sideouts, but MU still led 22-18 after a WP error.
• After another Knight error, the Lions led 24-22 but could not close out the frame. WPC came back with kills from Kealia Rosa and Janessa White, and two hitting errors by the visitors.
• Set two was close early, but Warner Pacific slowly pulled away thanks to three kills from Jordan Hunter that made the score 17-11 in favor of the home team.
• MU managed to pull back to within 24-22 and held off two set points, but White pounded out the set winner and gave WP a 2-0 set lead.
• WP sprinted out to a 13-4 lead in set three and were not threatened. M'Kailah Redden made her presence felt at the net with three blocks and the Knights closed out the match with a 25-17 win.

Notable

• Janessa White tied the WPC record for hitting percentage in a match (.600 - Beth Rector in 2001, minimum 20 attempts)
