The Short Story: Southern Oregon held Warner Pacific to a season low .117 hitting percentage on the way to a five-set win tonight in a Cascade Conference match. The Knights swung for 50 kills, but also had 33 costly errors. SOU didn't exactly shine offensively, but scored kills when needed to secure their second five-set win in as many nights. WPC let it rip from the service line, sending over 12 aces but also committing 13 service errors.
Janessa White had a career high five aces, and also led the Knights 17 kills. SOU's Emma Gasman led all players with 21 kills.
How it Happened
• The first set was close early as the teams battled to a 10-10 tie.
• SOU then scored four straight to take command, and ran away to a 25-16 win.
• The Knights regrouped for set two, and built a 17-11 lead thanks to a 4-0 run paced by a pair of aces from
Janessa Mast.
• The set was not a sure thing for WP as the visiting Raiders ralled to within 24-23 but Mast pounded out the final kill for the Knights.
• WPC sprinted out to another early lead in set three, leading again by the score of 17-11 after a
Jordan Hunter kill.
• The Raiders held off three set points to make the frame close, but an SOU error gave the Knights the 25-21 win.
• Wanting to close out the match, WPC scored three quick points to start set four.
• The momentum changed due to a 16-6 run and SOU went on to hit .286 in the frame and cornered the Knights into committing 10 attacking errors.
• Set five was a classic battle, with score tied 11 times including every point from 10 to 19. At 19-all, WP committed their final service error, then could not set up a successful attack on the final point.
