Box Score NAMPA, Idaho - Two goals from
Ashley Giesbers were not enough for Warner Pacific in a 3-2 loss at NCAA Div. II Northwest Nazarene yesterday.
The Knights battled the Crusaders to a 2-2 tie at the end of the first half, but conceded a goal with 7:24 to play in the second period. After an evenly played first period, NNU outshot the Knights 17-2 after intermission and finally broke through with the game-winner off the foot of Emily Wilkins who pounced on a rebound after an Ashley Cook-Cox shot and tucked home the ball for the 3-2 victory.
Giesbers scored both her goals during the opening 45 minutes, as the freshman pounced on turnovers in the 29th and 42nd minutes to give WPC a 2-1 lead.
Cathy Lara made 11 saves for the Knights, including several point blank stops to keep WP in the game.
"We were very good in the first half and matched them shot for shot," said head coach
Holly Popenuk. "NNU made some good adjustments at the break and were able to attack with more purpose. All in all were showed well against a quality opponent and that's a good sign heading into conference play."
