PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific dropped a close decision at cross-town foe Multnomah last night by the score of 94-93.
The contest was close from the opening tip, as the teams battled back and forth to 13 tie scores and 14 lead changes. The offensive output was mainly from the three point line, as the host Lions fired up 50 shots from distance while WPC launched 43 of their own.
MU held the slightest of advantages in the first half, leading by as many as 7 points (24-17). The Knights fought back and claimed the lead at 44-42, then settled for a 51-51 tie heading onto the locker room
.
As the second half unfolded, neither team could impose their will enough to take control fo the game. Both teams traded baskets and switched leads throughout with the score tied with four minutes remaining. MU edged in front thanks to a Max Upchurch deep three that extended the Lions lead to 91-86 with 1:17 remaining. The Knights responded with triples from
Adam Westfall,
Josh Thomas, and
Zack Gonzales, but the Lions made five of six tries from the free throw line to secure the upset win.
