PORTLAND, Ore. - The inconsistent play of the Warner Pacific men's basketball team continued during their trip to Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho, resulting in two Cascade Conference losses over the weekend.
The Knights left Portland in time to beat the snow storm moving across the state, but the cold stretches of shooting in each game proved to be difference as WP has now lost four in a row.
Eastern Oregon 99, Warner Pacific 79
After playing the host Mountaineers to a standstill in the first half, the Knights watched EOU slowly pull away after the break as the WP scorers went cold.Â
Trailing 40-35 at halftime, WP's
Charles Honest tallied the first bucket of the second half and the Knights looked to make a strong challenge to Eastern on their home floor. It wasn't to be as EOU slowly built a lead that reached as many as 24 (76-51) over the first 10 minutes of the period.
The Knights cut the lead down to 15 on a three pointer from
Josh Thomas with 3:59 to play, but could not sustain any comeback attempt.
Thomas led Warner Pacific with 17 points in just 10 minutes of action off the bench.
Montel Shirley added 14 points and six rebounds.
College of Idaho 71, Warner Pacific 67
A scoring drought on either side of halftime proved to be the difference for the Knights in a tough loss at College of Idaho on Saturday.
The host Yotes closed the first half on a 10-0 run, then opened the second with a 11-2 burst to build a 41-24 lead with 16:39 showing on the clock.The Knights wouldn't quit, making 9-of-15 3-point attempts in the final 20 minutes, as
Collin Malcolm canned a trey to start 13-2 run to cut the deficit to 43-37, with
Adam Westfall splashing a trey to pull the visitors within 52-51. C of I's Dominque Jordan countered with a pair of 3's and Emmanuel Morgan converted a lay-up after one of four steals on the night, as the Yotes regained a 65-55 lead.

WPC had one last push, as Westfall drained consecutive 3-pointers and Malcolm buried a long trey to cut the margin to 65-64 inside the final 90 seconds. Â Aitor Zubizarreta countered with a free throw line jumper and following a defensive stop, Joey Nebeker and Zubizarreta each drained a pair of free throws to close out the win.
Malcolm led the Knights with 14 points and had a game-high 17 rebounds – as WPC recorded a 37-35 rebound edge.Â
Keaton Bankofier had 13 points, with Westfall and
Charles Honest each scoring 12.
