PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific opened the 2017-18 season with a 78-68 loss to a very strong Trinity Western team tonight at CC Perry Gym.
The visiting Spartans earned the win despite turning the ball over 28 times, as the WPC press caused some problems. When TWU wasn't throwing the ball away, they were scoring at a 58 percent clip from the field (32 of 55). Kayla Gordon scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team.
The host Knights experienced a cold shooting first half which allowed TWU to build a lead that reached as many as 20 points in the second quarter. WP then found their scoring touch in the 3rd quarter and cut the gap to a little as nine points (60-51) but could draw no closer.
Kendyl Cone led WPC with 13 points on 5 of 5 shooting in her Knight debut.
Bailey Allen and Kordan Kujawski added nine points each.
