#12 Carroll Edges WPC with Second Half Rally

PORTLAND, Ore. - The fans inside C.C. Perry Gym were treated to a thrilling non-conference clash between Carroll College and Warner Pacific, with the visiting Saints coming out on top 89-85 last Saturday afternoon.

Carroll looked for post player Ryan Imhoff early in the game which paid off with interior baskets, trips to the free throw line, and a 12-6 lead. WPC responded with accurate shooting from the three point line and some easy scores in transition. Collin Malcolm (13 points) and Khiry WIlliams (12 points) carried the Knights into the lead, and Williams drained a trey as the first half buzzer sounded to give the home team a 45-35 advantage at the break.

WPC forced two turnovers to start the second half, and De'Jon Bowman scored back-to-back layups to give the Knights a 14 point lead - their largest of the game. Any notions of a blowout win for WP was erased quickly however, as Carroll reeled off 16 straight points over a span of five minutes to take a 51-49 lead.

The game turned into a slugfest with neither team leading by more than five points. After Xavier Cannefax hit a pair of free throws with 2:26 remaining in the game, the Knights claimed an 84-79 lead. The visiting Saints proceeded to close the game by outscoring WP 10-1 to earn the hard fought road victory. Matt Wyman scored two key baskets in the winning burst for Carroll.

Both teams enjoyed efficient shooting nights. Carroll finished the game 30 of 52 for 57 percent, while Warner Pacific made 34 of 61 tries from the floor (55 percent). WPC owned the glass, outrebounding the Saints 34 to 22. The difference in the game proved to be free throws, as Carroll made 27 of 39 tries. The Knights attempted just 15, making nine.
