PORTLAND, Ore. – A tight game between Warner Pacific and Puget Sound went the way of the visiting Loggers today, 68-65, at Bart Valentine Court.
Neither team led by more than three points in the 4th quarter, and Mya Kirzy gave the host Knights a 64-63 lead with a jumper in the lane with 1:39 to play. UPS would outscore Warner Pacific 5-1 in the last minute, including a pair of free throws from Mara Henderson to ice the game with 12 seconds left.
Plagued by slow starts all season, WPC changed their starting lineup and used a full court press to build an eight point lead in the 1st quarter. The pressure troubled the Loggers all game, resulting in 27 turnovers.
UPS stayed in the game thanks to dominance on the boards, grabbing 17 caroms on the offensive end and winning the overall rebounding statistic 53-30.
The first half ended with the Knights holding a 31-30 advantage, and the second half remained a close affair. Henderson hit a three pointer to give UPS their largest lead of the game (50-44) with 3:18 in the period, but WP responded with a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead and set up the 4th quarter battle.
Bailey Allen and Shasta Lofgren led Warner Pacific with 12 points each.
Darbi Pink added 10 points, while Grace Prom passed for a team high five assists.
Two Loggers posted double-doubles; Elizabeth Prewitt had 14 points and 14 rebounds, along with 18 points and 11 rebounds from Jamie Lange.
