WP Seniors Lead Knights to Victory over Evergreen

PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific ended their season on high note, dispatching Evergreen in four sets today at C.C. Perry Gym.

Senior Janessa Mast added 23 more kills to her season total to lead the host Knights, and help WP to improve to a 7-13 record for the year. Mast leads the NAIA in kills per set, and raised her season average to 5.07 with the result.

With emotions running high, WPC led from the first serve in set one. Mast hit back-to-back kills to make the score 18-10 in favor of the Knights and though Evergreen closed to within 19-16, WP reeled off six straight kills to close the door and take the frame 25-16.

Set two was all Evergreen, as the Geoducks (10-18, 7-13 CCC) sprinted out to 15-6 advantage and didn't let up. All three of ESC's blocks came in the set, and the Geoducks forced seven total errors from WP attackers. Megan Breckinridge worked over the Knight serve receivers as she tallied two aces and generally made life miserable for the home team.

Warner Pacific rebounded to take sets three and four with relative ease as the serve reception improved. The Knights pounded out 21 kills in set three, and 19 in set four as Evergreen made WP earn every point. Melisa Ljuca was particularly effective for WP, finishing with 15 kills versus just one error.

Knight seniors Janessa Mast, Jordan Hunter, Alana Jennings, and M'Kailah Redden were honored before the match.
