PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific put five players in double figure scoring as a balanced attack sent the Knights past Multnomah 105-81 at Bart Valentine Court.
Collin Malcolm did the most damage, tossing in 23 points on 10 of 18 shooting, and the host Knights (8-3, 3-0 CCC) shot 52 percent from the field overall.
WPC opened the game with nine straight points and never trailed in the game. Brandon Bell scored at the rim to give WP a 14 point advantage (30-16) with 9:41 left in period one, but the visiting Lions (3-7, 1-2 CCC) found a rhythm on the offensive end and trailed just 43-34 after Trey Fountain converted a three point play with 2:26 on the clock. WP closed the half with a 13-2 run however, and enjoyed a 54-36 lead at halftime.
MU scored the first basket of the second half, but the Knights slowly pulled away and after
Montel Shirley made a pair of free throws, led by their largest margin of the night at 77-47 with 12:27 to play. The Lions kept fighting and closed the gap to 18 points on two occasions but could not get closer.
In addition to Malcolm's game high 23,
Xavier Cannefax scored 19 points. Brandon Bell came off the bench for 11 points and eight rebounds.
Darius Redrick and Max Upchurch shared team high honors for Multnomah with 16 points each.
