LA GRANDE, Ore. - With four wins in their last five games, the Warner Pacific men's basketball team was optimistic heading into the CCC Tournament. The 2016-17 season came to a close for the Knights however, with an 84-58 loss at Eastern Oregon.
Despite commiting just two turnovers for the game, the Knight offense never got on track. WP made only 22 of 68 shot attempts including just 2 of 25 tries from behind the arc. Meanwhile, the host Mountaineers enjoyed a 49 percent effort from the field to pull away for the comfortable win.
Collin Malcolm scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but
De'Corrius Sampson-Young (12 points) was the only other Knight in double figures. WP was also outrebounded 48-35.
Warner Pacific ends the 2016-17 campaign with a 12-17 record, breaking a streak of 12 straight years of winning seasons for Knight basketball.
"We were playing good basketball at the end of the season, but it didn't continue tonight as we had trouble scoring the ball," said coach
Jared Valentine. "It's always a challenge to win in LaGrande and we weren't good enough tonight. We didn't see our usual level of success on the court this year, but I enjoyed coaching these guys and appreciate their effort."
