SALEM, Ore. – Warner Pacific started the 2017 season with a 2-0 win over Corban University at the newly renovated CFC Soccer Complex. The match was a non-conference contest for both Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) foes.
The result was just the second ever win over for the Knights over Corban, with two goals from
Ashley Giesbers providing the margin.
The host Warriors had much of the ball in the first half and outshot WP 11-3 over the first 45 minutes. None found the back of the net, leaving the score tied 0-0 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Giesbers proved to be the difference for Warner Pacific. The sophomore scored a breakaway goal in the 58th minute before blasting one into the top-left corner of the net eight minutes later, lifting the Knights to the two-goal victory on the road.
Staci Tatum was credited with the assist.
Corban finished the match with 19 shots, while Warner Pacific (1-0) tallied 10.
Zoey Dahme collected her first career win and shutout for the Knights, recording seven saves.
