PORTLAND, Ore. – A balanced scoring attack from Warner Pacific led to a convincing 84-60 season opening win for the Knights over Simpson University today at Bart Valentine Court.
11 different players scored for WPU, led by
Gabriella Bruno with 14 points off the bench.
Bailey Allen added 12 points.
High pressure defense from the Knights led to 31 turnovers by the Redhawks, and led to several easy transition baskets for WP.
Estella Gutierrez tossed in a game high 16 points for Simpson, but the Redhawks only managed a 34.6 shooting percentage while Warner Pacific connected at a 43.6 percent clip.
Simpson did win the rebounding battle 46-39, and made 23 of 27 free throw attempts.
"Anytime you can force 31 turnovers is a good day for your defense," said coach
Matt Gregg. "It was a good start for us, and there were contributions from everyone. Now we get the challenge of facing Division I opposition for the next two games. We'll see what we can do and enjoy the experience while we work to get better."
