PORTLAND, Ore. – The desired outcome for Warner Pacific and their seniors was not to be, as it was College of Idaho that earned the road win Friday night, 59-57.
The host Knights (10-18, 6-12 CCC) dropped to 9th place with the loss, one spot out of the playoff picture with two games to play. The Yotes (10-14, 10-8 CCC) moved two games clear of Corban for 5th place, and kept a slim hope of jumping up to 4th and hosting a quarterfinal game.
WPU endured a slow start, scoring just six points in the 1st quarter. Things picked up in period two, but C of I kept the advantage and went into halftime leading 31-20.
The 3rd quarter belonged to the Knights, as
Maryah Tipping bossed the paint for 14 points and pushed WP to their first lead of game (46-45) with a layup to end the period.
The visiting Yotes did just enough in the final quarter to get the victory.
Emily Peters connected on an interior basket to give the Knights their largest lead of the game (56-49) with 6:38 to play, but WP could only manage a single free throw the rest of the way. Alyssa Case scored five points down the stretch, and Holly Madison hit a clutch three pointer to complete the winning surge.
Tipping led WP with a season high 20 points and eight rebounds. Peters and
Kendyl Cone added nine points each.
Alyssa Case was the top scorer for College of Idaho, tossing in 18 points.
Knight seniors
Mady Hanna,
Michaela Pin, and
Katlyn James were honored before the game, along with Lexy Delos Reyes who finished her 4th season as part of the team though Team Impact.
