PORTLAND – Warner Pacific gained a measure of revenge versus their cross town rival Multnomah, defeating the Lions 87-82 at Bart Valentine Court and earning the season split versus the Lions.
Gabe Garrett did work in the paint, grabbing 13 rebounds and scoring 25 for the Knights with a variety of short jumpers and layups.
The visiting Lions (11-9, 4-6 CCC) hoisted up numerous three pointers as usual, hitting 14 of 42 tries. The NAIA's leading scorer Justin Martin was held mostly in check, but he did slice to the rim for 20 points and passed for 10 assists to complete the double-double.
WPU (13-7, 5-5 CCC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the opening minutes, but MU battled back and made it a close game for the duration. The host Knights took the lead for good (70-68) on a
Corey Thomas jumper with 7:51 to play, and the lead grew to as much as nine. The Lions made one final push, and cut the lead to 84-82 with 2:05 on the clock.

Collin Malcolm was quiet on the night (6 points), but came up with a blocked shot on consecutive MU possessions down the stretch to secure the win. Warner Pacific made 3 of 4 free throws in the closing moments to solidify the final score.
Brett Blackstock led MU with 24 points in 5 of 10 shooting from the three point line.
Morris Bethea added 17 points to the Knight cause, with
Jalen Ballard chipping in with 15 counters.
