Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific University hosted Northwest University on a dark and cold fall evening at Eastside Timbers Sports Complex. The Knights fell to the Eagles 3-0.
Â
The Eagles made their presence known quickly as they were able to score just four minutes into the match, showing why they're the team to beat in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Â
It seemed the Knights defense couldn't quite get a handle on the speed and quick footwork of the Eagles as they found their way through the back line for their second goal just two minutes after the first. The Eagles found the net for the third time within 18 minutes of play, taking a quick 3-0 lead over the Knights.
Â
After a few defensive substitutions by Knights Coach
Josh Westermann, the Knights seemed to find their marks and slow the Eagles down heading into halftime.
Â
As the last 45-minutes started, the Knights were much more vocal on the defensive side of the ball. It was apparent Westermann's goal during the break was to simply get the girls to talk on defense, and to make sure everyone in the stadium heard them, too.
Â
Despite the 3-goal first half, the Knights' defense tightened and cleaned up and were able to keep the ball off of the line for the remainder of the match.
Â
Knights keeper
Alyssa Guthrie had herself a game with 8 saves.
Two of the three Eagles goals were Hannah Nicholson passes to Callie Wright.
Â
The Knights face The Evergreen State College Geoducks in Portland on Saturday October 12
th at 4:30pm.
