Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific University hosted The Evergreen State College Geoducks Saturday afternoon at Eastside Timbers Sports Complex. The Knights fell 1-2 to TESC.
Â
From the first whistle, the match was even, as both teams would find a break in the other's defense. Both teams were aggressive to start, pushing early and pressuring the ball on the defensive side. The offensive pressure paid off for the Geoducks who were able to strike first, sending a ball to the back of the net just nine minutes into the match.
Â
After a couple of subs for the Knights, they got the fresh legs and energy needed to push the ball up the field, and with 11 minutes remaining in the half, Senior
Kendyl Cone received the ball 30-yards out and weaved her way in and out of traffic to eventually send a shot off from 7-yards out on the right side, to the back left corner of the goal.
Just before half, Evergreen found a crack in the Knights defense as Katelyn Gose sent a ball through the Knights' defense to Maddie Lockwood for the go-ahead goal.
Heading into half, the match was 1-2. Â
Â
Halftime adjustments seem to be Coach Westermann's specialty, as he often makes defensive switches and substitutions, allowing for a higher and tighter defense, slowing the pace down for the opponents. Today was no different, with two defensive changes to start the half, the Knights were able to keep the ball between the 18-yard boxes for the last 45 minutes of play, keeping an aggressive defensive front and ultimately keeping the ball off the line. Unfortunately, they couldn't capitalize offensively and the Geoducks head back to Olympia with a W.
Â
The Knights will conclude their seven-game homestead this upcoming weekend, as they first face Carroll College on Friday and finish the home season with Providence Saturday night. Friday's match is set for 11:30am at ETSC.
