Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific University defeated the Fighting Saints of Carroll College 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
Â
The match was physical from the first to the last whistle as both teams were in need of a win with playoffs approaching. As the tempo of the match began to settle, both teams crept closer and closer to the goal lines, streaking through one another's back lines.
Â
Just as the first half was coming to a close,
Oscar Padilla sent a low cross-ball from the right side to the middle right as
Omar Alcazar was streaking towards the goal and just like that, the Knights took the 1-0 lead heading into the break. It was Alcazar's sixth goal of the season, tying with
Arturo Bahena to lead the Knights for the season-high.
Â
The second half was chippy, with both teams becoming more and more aggressive as the clock got closer to 0:00. With just under ten minutes left in the match, the Saints lucked out as
Kingsley Armah sent a shot just centimeters outside the post.
Â
As the match concluded, tempers flared and aggression continued as each team drew a few late Yellow Cards. Ultimately, the Knights' defensive line did their job in keeping the Fighting Saints scoreless.
Â
In what will be the final home match for the fifteen Knight Seniors, Warner Pacific will face off against University of Providence Saturday at 7pm.
