Late Corban Goals Give Warriors 2-0 Victory over Knights Women's Soccer

Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific held their own for most of the match on Wednesday evening but the back line began to crack in the final 20 minutes of play against a very good Corban University squad as the Knights fell 0-2 in Salem.

Both teams fought hard in this non-conference matchup and after the first 45, the score was nil-nil. The Warriors, playing at home, were the more aggressive of the two teams, booting the ball towards the net 15 times, leaving five on goal, two of which met the back of the net. Knights keeper Alyssa Guthrie, coming off of a 7 save game versus OUAZ, tallied 3 saves on the night.

Corban got on the scoreboard late in the second half, sinking their first goal from close range off of a set play in the 72nd minute by Rylee MacDonald. Just 12 minutes later, netting her first career goal, Hannah Hersh found the back of the net from far out to seal the 2-0 victory for the Warriors.

The Knights offense had a hard time breaking through a very tight Warrior back line as WPU was only able to launch four shots, leaving two on goal but unable to capitalize on them.

"In a new formation that we got a little practice on, we performed well. One lucky goal, one break down…we've never contended with Corban like this before so I think it's only up from here. I'm impressed with my team and I'm very happy to be here" says Senior Captain Joie Lopez.

WPU is on the road next week opening up Cascade Collegiate Conference play in Billings, MT.  Upon their return, the Knights will host Corban University in their conference home opener on Friday, September 27th. The match is set for 11:30am at Eastside Timbers Sports Complex.
