Salem, Ore. | The Knights of Warner Pacific University defeated the Warriors of Corban University 86-67 on Saturday night.
Gabriella Bruno led the Knights with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals, followed closely by
Darbi Pink's 19 points.
Â
The talk of the game were the free-throw attempts; Warner Pacific was sent to the line 52 times and converted on 37 of them, whereas the Warriors attempted only 21, sinking 15 of them.
Darbi Pink and
Courtney Jackson were both 6-6 from the stripe for Warner Pac.
Â
For the second night in a row, the Knights, who have been averaging just over 59 points a game, scored 80+. The Knights led for all but 2 minutes of the game, taking a 20-point lead with just over four minutes to play.
Â
Warner Pacific went off to a quick start, taking a 14-6 lead heading into the first media timeout. It seemed the air-tight Warner Pacific press was too much for the Warriors to handle as the Knights were able to force 24 Corban turnovers, six of them coming in the first five minutes of the game.
Â
It seemed as though every time that Corban would draw within three points, the Knights would respond with momentum, going on a 13-0 run and another 12-0 run. As the Knights have recently struggled shooting from the arch, tonight they had their way, shooting 47.8%, led by Bruno, Jackson and Pink, who each nailed three.
Â
Corutney Jackson ended with 15 points and five rebounds off the bench and
Samantha Morgan added 11 points and three steals.
Celeste Pantoja dished out five assists and grabbed four boards to go along with four points for Warner Pac.
Â
Corban was led by Jordan Woodvine's 26 points. Kendra Murphy added 13 points and 12 boards for the Warriors.
Â
The Knights will be in CC Perry Gymnasium on Friday night as they host the Eagles of Northwest University. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
