Knights Win Final Road Trip Game of Season Versus Argos, Clinching Playoff Berth

Great Falls, Mont. | The Warner Pacific Men's Soccer team (14-2, 10-1) will be playing post-season soccer in a few weeks thanks to a 3-1 victory today over the University of Providence Argos (3-9-1, 3-7-1). The Knights are now 14-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play, which is enough to clinch a playoff berth to go to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year.

The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a score from junior forward Hunter Leach, who received the quick touch goal from a cross off the foot of senior forward Christian Bahena. Argos' goalkeeper Evan Scholes never stood a chance to defend the cross after Bahena slipped it past multiple Providence defenders to find Leach by himself in front of Scholes.

With less than five minutes to go in the first half, Argos' forward George Almeida found the back of the net thanks to a rebound opportunity off the Knights' defensive line. Knights' goalkeeper Alexis Calderilla-Hurtado dove but could not succeed in blocking the perfectly placed shot of Almeida's rebound shot.

Knights' senior midfielder Matias Castano started the second half scoring with an absolute dime of a shot across the penalty box, where he was almost out of bounds on the attempt. After just managing to stay inbounds and upright, Castano's goal marked his first of the year, and proved to be the game-winner in today's match.

Christian added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute off a long assist from Calderilla-Hurtado, who went from clearing a ball in his own penalty box to assisting on the same play. Bahena scores his first goal of the season as well on the long one-vs-one goal against Scholes.

Warner Pacific returns home to the Eastside Timbers Sports Complex to host a mammoth of a Senior Weekend, where they will battle the Southern Oregon University Raiders and the Oregon Tech Owls for what could possibly decide the fate of the conference champion. The Knights will take on the Raiders at 11am PST on Friday, then the Owls at 4:30pm PST on Saturday for Senior Day festivities.
