Buchanan, Knights End Home Skid with Sweep of Walla Walla

PORTLAND | In their first series sweep of the year, the Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team (2-20, 2-17) took down the Walla Walla University Wolves (0-20, 0-19) on their home court, snapping a 9-game losing streak and securing a win to open Senior Day weekend, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18.

In the first set, Warner Pacific and Walla Walla exchanged rally after rally, with the Knights ultimately coming out on top of a closely contested battle thanks to a kill from senior setter Matalasi Laban to win it 25-23. Laban would go on to dish out a game-high 33 assists for the match.

Everything that could go right went that direction for the Knights in the second set, as WPU swung at a season-high .480 kill percentage, notching 15 kills in the frame to only 3 team attacking errors. After being down 0-5 to start, ten straight points late in the set from the Knights was enough to force the Wolves into a corner.

Despite a few hiccups in the third and final set, Warner Pacific managed to hold off a Wolves' rally midway through to pick up their first home win of the season.

Leading the Knights to victory today was senior outside hitter Grace Buchanan, who hit at a season-high .385 kill%, and added 15 digs to notch her 7th double-double of the season. Transfer junior middle blocker Jahlett Talalemotu-Tofi played in just her 4th game of the season due to injury, but impressed today with 7 kills en route to a .429 kill% for the night.

Wolves' middle blocker Gabrielle Browning led Walla Walla with 8 kills and 10 digs, while also tacking on 2 assisted blocks in tonight's match.

Warner Pacific Women's Volleyball will play their final home game of the season tomorrow against the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors, with Senior Day festivities starting at 5pm PST, and the match shortly to follow the honoring of the four WPU seniors.
