PORTLAND | It is good to be home. After three straight road games to start the 2021-22 season, the Warner Pacific University Women's Basketball team (1-2) righted the ship on their preseason journey, taking down NCAA Division II and fellow Portland university Lewis & Clark College (2-2) in front of fans for the first time in almost two years at C.C. Perry Gym, with a final score of 68-59.
After jumping out to a quick 8-2 lead, WPU and Lewis & Clark were locked in a back and forth battle, with Warner Pacific being able to hit the clutch shots down the stretch. Despite the Pioneers never leading in this game, they pulled within two or three points on numerous occasions throughout the night, while the Knights were able to stay composed and focused on the end goal of their first win of the season.
Nearly eking out a double-double for Warner Pacific tonight was senior guard
Kylie Guelsdorf, who dropped 10 points while scooping up 7 rebounds and nabbing 4 steals along the way.
Senior guard
Courtney Jackson continues to impress and lead the way for the Knights, as she had another 16 points today to lead all Warner Pacific players.
In her highest minute count of the season, freshman forward
Alexa Mee provided some crucial minutes for Knights Head Coach
Matt Gregg in the post, scoring 8 points and hauling in 7 rebounds including 4 offensive rebounds that led to second chance points.
Pioneers' forward Delsie Johnson was an absolute force for Lewis & Clark down in paint, leading all scorer and rebounders with 22 points and 13 boards. Only issue for Johnson and the Pioneers, is that she was the only player for Lewis & Clark to score in double digits, while the Knights had three separate players in double figures.
The Knights will take the weekend to prepare for an early conference game this upcoming Tuesday, November 23
rd, as they travel the five minute journey north to battle conference-rival Multnomah University in the first conference game of the year, right before the Thanksgiving break. Catch the action in person or via Multnomah's livestream starting at 5:30pm PST.
