Helena, Mont. | The preseason is all about taking opportunities against non-conference opponents, and the Warner Pacific University Men's Basketball team (2-2) took their shot against the nationally ranked #10 Carroll College (5-0) on the Saints' own home court, but fell by a final of 63-79.
The tale of tonight's game can be found hiding in plain sight on the stat sheet, where the Knights were out-rebounded 18-33, giving up 10 second chance points to the Saints. Despite having a nearly equal amount of turnovers for the game, Carroll converted on over double the amount of opportunities than Warner Pacific, scoring 14 points off of turnovers to the Knights' 6 points.
Carroll College also shot exceptionally well from behind the arc, scoring on 41.7% of their 3-point shots taken, while the Knights only managed to score on 31.3% on 3-pointers. WPU was able convert all free-throw attempts, shooting 100% on 6 of 6 shooting, which turned out to be a moot point as the Saints comparatively stepped to the line 14 times, converting on 12 of those attempts.
Knights senior guard
Drew Magaoay led the offensive drive for Warner Pacific, scoring 11 points off the bench and providing a nice change of pace at times when the Knights offense seemed to stall. Senior center
Christian Hodge came close to his first double-double of the season, hauling in a team-high 8 rebounds and adding 8 points to the mix.
Forward Jovan Sljivancanin impressed in major fashion tonight for the Saints, dropping a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds, while handing out 8 assists to come two shy of a triple-double. When it wasn't Jovan, Saints' guard Shamrock Campbell was also providing an offensive push for Carroll, splashing for 16 points in tonight's contest.
An extended week of practice and rest awaits the Knights, as they won't see the hardwood again until November 17
th at 7pm PST, where they travel to Lacey, Wash. to battle the Saint Martin's University Saints in an exhibition match for Warner Pacific University.
