Newberg, Ore. | The Warner Pacific University Women's Basketball team (4-3, 3-0) had their four-game win-streak snapped Friday night, as they fell 60-67 on the road in a non-conference bout to NCAA DIII George Fox University (3-5, 0-2).
Â
A rough second quarter of both offense and defense doomed the Knights in tonight's contest, as WPU was outscored 9-20 going into the halftime break, now trailing by 14 points and facing an uphill battle with multiple starters in foul trouble already.
Â
Senior guard
Courtney Jackson tried with all her might to help lead the Knights back to victory in the second half, scoring 13 of the 21 points the Knights scored in the third quarter, and adding 11 more points of the 15 team points scored in the fourth quarter. Jackson's 28 points for the game ties her career-high that she set last week against Bushnell, and scored nearly 50% of the total team points by the Knights this evening.
Â
Despite outscoring the Bruins in both the third and fourth quarters, the 14-point halftime deficit proved to be too much for Warner Pacific to bounce back from, dropping their first regular season contest in almost a month. All three of the Knights' record loses this season have come away from C.C. Perry Gym against non-conference opponents, and WPU won't encounter another such matchup this season outside of a December 20
th exhibition showcase at NCAA DI Boise State University.
Â
Four of the five Knights starters ended the evening with four personal fouls each, making it extremely difficult for Head Coach
Matt Gregg to get his offense involved and physical down underneath the basket.
Â
Jackson added six rebounds and a steal to her stat line for the evening, while senior guard
Lynden Harry scored eleven points to couple with three rebounds and three assists. The game-high seven rebounds came from Knights' senior guard
Anna Farner, who dished out a pair of assists and scored five points of her own in tonight's efforts.
Â
Guard Rachel Parks, who scored thirteen points and tied the team-high at four rebounds, led the Bruins offensively in just 20 minutes played. Forward Cassidy Posey played the role of point guard this evening for George Fox, dishing out a game-high six assists while scoring eight points.
Â
The Warner Pacific Women's Basketball team will host their final non-conference game of the year on Tuesday, December 14
th at 6pm PST, as they welcome the Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene University from Mount Vernon, Ohio on their quick West Coast trip.
