Myers, Knights Bounce Back to Down Geoducks, Improve to 4-1 in Conference Play

PORTLAND | Just in time for the new year, the Warner Pacific University Women's Basketball team (6-4, 4-1) rebounded after their first conference loss on Friday night to take down the Evergreen State University Geoducks (3-6, 1-4) tonight 67-61 in their final home game at C.C. Perry Gym this calendar year.

Despite a very slow start for both teams, the Knights were able to climb back up through the 2nd half, and just edging the Geoducks enough to keep them out of striking distance for the remainder of the game. Warner Pacific pushed their lead out to 17 points around just the end of the 3rd quarter, which would prove to be enough to clinch tonight's contest, regardless of Evergreen State's best efforts to make this a more competitive matchup.

With two and a half minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, the Geoducks pushed to within two points on a pair of free throws from guard Trinity Betoney. However, Knights' senior guard Anna Farner would hit back-to-back layups to push the lead back to at least two possessions for Evergreen State with less than a minute to go, making a run at possibly sending this game to an overtime period that much more challenging for the Geoducks.

Knights' senior forward Hannah Myers had herself a career scoring night for Warner Pacific, leading the game with a career-high 26 points on 11 of 15 shooting, all while adding five rebounds and a pair of assists in just 30 minutes played. Myers becomes the second Knight to break her career-high in scoring this season, as senior guard Courtney Jackson broke her single-game career-high with 28 points earlier this season on two separate occasions.

Farner did just about everything on the court for WPU, as she tallied 14 points, dished out eight assists, and hauled in eight rebounds to come four stats shy of a triple-double. She also added a pair of crucial steals to help Warner Pacific lock up tonight's victory in front of the home crowd fans.

Evergreen State's guard Sha'nece Garret dropped 19 points with four three pointers tonight, while Betoney added an appealing 13 points and 13 rebounds for a solid double-double performance. TESU guard Caitlin Yenne scored 15 points on just under 50% shooting from the field, and tied with Betoney for the team-high in assists (4).

The Warner Pacific Women's Basketball team will hit the road tomorrow for a quick exhibition matchup on Monday night against NCAA DI Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. The tipoff of that game is slated for 5:30pm MT in ExtraMile Arena.
