PORTLAND | It was a heavy hitting day for Warner Pacific Softball. In just the first inning,
Payton Hergert, on a 3-2 count with a runner on base, sent a ball well beyond the boundary for a two-run homer. Just four innings later, on a 2-2 count with two outs and bases loaded,
Devinne Amesquita hit a grand slam past the left side of the fence en route to a much needed 8-1 victory over the Northwest University Eagles. The Knights eventually dropped game two to the Eagles.

The Rundown
Warner Pacific managed to score eight runs on five hits in the first of two games on Friday.
The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to Hergert's two-run home run in just the first inning. Â
Three innings later, with the help of the Amesquita grand slam, the Knights rang in a total of six runs in the fourth inning while managing to keep the Eagles off the plate and close out their first conference win in three weeks.
The two teams flipped the script in game two as the Knights went on to give up 12 Eagles runs and 13 hits.

Despite the Knights making contact with the ball seven times, the squad was only able to convert on two of them.
After a 2-0 Warner Pacific lead after one inning, the Eagles held the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the game while scoring 11 runs of their own and closing out game two with a 12-2 victory.
