Rocklin, Calif. | Monday afternoon, the Warner Pacific University Women's Soccer team (0-2) played the first of two non-conference matches near the Sacramento and San Francisco areas, this one against William Jessup University (4-2) out of Rocklin. With the Knights unable to convert on the scoring end of the field today, the Warriors took control of this one early and finished the game with a score of 0-3.
Scoring early would be an understatement, as the Warriors struck put the ball in the back of the net just 14 seconds from kickoff. After an errant pass in the Knights backfield, Warriors forward Kye Johnson found the ball at the top box after midfielder Nadia Vazquez jumped the pass route, and snuck it past the outstretched arms of Knights goalkeeper
Makenna McClellan.
William Jessup's leading goal scorer, midfielder Kaylee Gillespie, added the next two goals for the Warriors in this game, thus growing her total goal count for the 2021-22 season to 5 in just six games played.
Junior forward
Maddie Goss led the Knights offensively with 4 shots in tonight's match, while McClellan pulled in 9 saves while in goal.
The Knights will travel west tomorrow (9/14/21) for a 4pm PST kickoff against the Mills College Cyclones in Oakland, Calif. This will be the Knights last non-conference matchup of the season before they start Cascade Collegiate Conference play on Friday.
