Women’s Volleyball Stumbles Against Northwest University Eagles in Conference Opener

Kirkland, Wash. | The Warner Pacific University Women's Volleyball team opened conference play tonight against Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash., in a game that the Knights were able to stay within reach nearly the entire night, but resulted in the Eagles sweeping the Knights in straight sets 25-19, 25-18, 25-17.

It has been quite some time since the members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference have had the opportunity to host fans for a conference game, and the Eagles used that to their advantage in front of a jam-packed student section. However, the Knights were able to keep their composure and feed off of the same vibrant energy that kept them in this game through each set, but unfortunately falling in the end.

Sophomore outside hitter Tevlin Britten was the shining star on offense for the Knights, as she led the team with an outstanding .615 kill% that came from 8 kills and 0 errors on 13 attempts, with senior outside hitter Grace Buchanan adding 11 kills of her own.

Defensively for Warner Pacific, the team shared the load for the most part, but sophomore defensive specialist Abby Alvaro-Thomas stepped up with 10 digs to go along with 3 assists and 2 service aces offensively.

The Northwest Eagles senior leadership shined brightly in this contest, as Eagles middle blocker Megan Horne was the kill leader of this game with 14 in total, and only 1 error. Horne's partner at the position, senior Abigail Broussard, added an additional 9 kills to Northwest's point total. Senior defensive specialist Cristina Lorenz commanded the digs for the Eagles with 19 in the match.

Tomorrow night (9/4/2021), the Knights will take on The Evergreen State College Geoducks at 5pm in their second road conference game of the year at the Costantino Recreation Center in Olympia, Wash.
