Rare Century Mark Achieved as Warner Pacific Blows By Walla Walla

PORTLAND | Six different Knights scored in double-figures today at C.C. Perry Gym, as the Warner Pacific University Men's Basketball team (11-12, 7-8) put on a stunning offensive show against Walla Walla University (2-19, 1-13), defeating the Wolves 105-70 Friday afternoon.

The Knights took control of this game from the tip, scoring on four consecutive three-pointers to start the scoring for WPU, while holding Wolves to six points over the same scoring span. Walla Walla pulled to within four points with 15:68 left in the first half, but would come no closer for the remainder of the afternoon. Warner Pacific went on a 17-2 run over the next six minutes of play, including nine points from senior center Christian Hodge.

Warner Pacific shot exceptionally well from all areas of the court in the first half, hitting 51.4% of their field goals and a blazing 44.4% of their three-point attempts. Senior guard Isaac Etter went 3-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc in the first 20 minutes played, scoring 13 points to lead WPU at the break.

Since the Knights were able to take a 15-point lead into halftime, Warner Pacific Head Coach Jamayne Potts designated a large portion of the second half to the WPU bench players, as 34 of the 58 second half points came from the hands of a Warner Pacific reserve player. Most notably, sophomore guard Colton Gorski took over point guard duties to score 10 points, haul in eight rebounds, and dish out four assists in just 21 minutes played, a majority of which came in the final half.

Sophomore guard Mark Wishom lit up the court on the opportunities he was given, recording a career-high 10 points with WPU on a perfect 4-for-4 field goal attempts, two of which were from three-point territory.

Once the Knights had extended their lead to 20+ points late in the second half, Warner Pacific and Walla Walla finished out the contest in a shot-for-shot competition, with very little defense and a whole lot of offense being played. WPU's lead reached as high as 37 points with less than a minute to go, before one final basket from WWU topped off the game at 105-70.

Hodge finished the afternoon coming off the bench to record Warner Pacific's first double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and dominating the glass to nab 11 rebounds. He also swatted three Walla Walla shot attempts, along with three assists in 15 minutes played.

Etter scored above 20 points for the third time this season, finishing with 22 points on six made three-point attempts, shooting just over 50% from the field. Senior forward Miles Brown added a season-high 17 points with a pair of assists, also hitting more than half of his field goals for the game.

Wolves' guard Ethan Ford recorded team-high numbers in most statistical categories for his squad, scoring 19 points, bringing down eight rebounds, dealing four assists, and swiping three steals in a complete game effort. Fellow guard Caleb Garden added 16 points to the mix, along with a couple of rebounds and assists.

The Knights return to C.C. Perry Gym tomorrow night, where they will host the (RV) Lewis-Clark State College Warriors in a highly anticipated rematch for Coach Potts and his squad, looking to rebound from the loss the Warriors handed them at the beginning of the New Year.

As a reminder, Warner Pacific University has made the decision to not allow outside fans for this week of home games, in an attempt to lower the increase in recent COVID-19 cases. All games will be available for free at www.wpuknights.com.
