Warner Pacific’s Shots Fall Flat Against Top 25 Lewis-Clark State

Lewiston, Idaho | Just unable to find any offensive consistency tonight was the Warner Pacific University Men's Basketball team (8-6, 4-2), who fell by a final score of 56-74 to the #17 ranked Lewis-Clark State College Warriors (13-2, 6-1) tonight at the P1FCU Activity Center on Lewis-Clark State campus.

The offensive woes began early for the Knights, as an opening layup from senior center Christian Hodge to start the scoring for WPU was followed by seven consecutive missed shots, and only two of the next 16 attempts would fall for the Knights to allow the Warriors to climb to a double-digit lead only eight minutes into the contest.

Warner Pacific just could not connect from anywhere on the court, especially from beyond the three-point arc, as the Knights could not hit a single three-pointer in the first half, going 0 for 14 in the first twenty minutes of play. Very little of their scoring success was found when setting up the offense, as the Knights managed just two assists as a team going into halftime.

Meanwhile, the Warriors found much of their first half success shooting the ball from in-between the paint and the three-point arc, hitting a respectable 46.9% of their field goals on multiple mid-range jumpers. LC State's defensive presence forced Warner Pacific to take contested shots, which resulted in the Knights looking to climb out of a 16-point halftime deficit.

The second half wrote a nearly identical storyline for both squads, with the Knights finding some more offensive output than in the first half, but allowing just as much scoring from Lewis-Clark State put Warner Pacific in an unclimbable hole. The Knights were able to hold the Warriors to an overall lower field goal percentage in the second half, but an improvement to a 31.5% field goal rate at their own basket wasn't enough for a comeback bid.

Freshman guard Nigel McKay was one of the lone bright spots on the offensive end for the Knights, scoring a game-high 15 points and hitting four of the five Knights three-pointers for the entire game. Junior guard Thomas Miles scored 11 points and hauled in eight rebounds in a starting role to leads the Knights in boards.

Five LC State players finished tonight's game in double figures, led by guard Colton Spencer who came off the bench to score 14 points in 16 minutes played. Finishing outside of double digits was guard Silas Bennion, who stuffed the stat sheet via other routes to finish with a career-high 12 rebounds and nine assists, one shy of the first double-double of his career.

The Knights jump back onto the hardwood tomorrow night, as they travel to College Place, Wash. to faceoff with the Walla Walla University Wolves, who are just coming off a home upset over Multnomah University last Friday night. That game is slated to begin promptly at 5pm PST, following the conclusion of the WPU vs WWU women's basketball game.
