Last Minute Goal From Garfias Helps Knights Earn Draw

PORTLAND, Ore.| A last minute goal from Brianna Garfias helped the Knights earn a 2-2 draw against Evergreen in their matchup on Friday afternoon.

The action got off to a fast start for the Knights as freshman Kiya Gramps got the Knights on the board in the 7th minute with her second goal of the year.

Evergreen was able to tie up the game in the 27th minute when Colbi Stewart scored promptly after checking into the game. Evergreen capitalized on their momentum by adding on another goal just 2 minutes later, this time from Brie Dell.

The Knights and Geoducks went back and forth following the two Evergreen goals. Going into the half, Evergreen maintained a 2-1 lead.

The Knights came out of the half aggressive, attempting 9 shots in the second half, compared to only 3 from Evergreen. The offensive push eventually paid off for the Knights as Brianna Garfias tied up the game in the 87th minute.

Knights goalkeeper Kate Pomerinke was also crucial to the Knights being able to come out with a draw. The freshman recorded four saves on the game, including two incredible leaping saves to prevent the Geoducks from expanding their lead.

The urgency for the Knights in the second half led to some emotion spilling over. Head coach Justan Wolvert received his second yellow card of the year in the 81st minute.

The draw puts the Knights at 5-6-2 on the season. Women's soccer is back in action Oct. 15 at home against Northwest University.
