PORTLAND, Ore.| The Knights turned in a gritty defensive performance in what was ultimately a losing effort against Northwest on Saturday.
Warner Pacific had their work cut out for them heading into their contest against an undefeated Northwest.
The Knights were able to frustrate the offensive plans of the Eagles throughout the first half. Warner consistently closed in on runs and prevented Northwest from getting the kinds of offensive looks they were hoping for early in the game.
Northwest attempted nine shots and was held to one goal in the first half. The Eagles goal came with under a minute left in the half from Liv Lagerquist.
The Knights were motivated by their defensive play heading into the half and they looked to carry that energy with them through the end of the game.
The second half played out in a similar fashion to the first. Northwest dominated possession and attempted significantly more shots than Warner. However, the Knights were able to prevent many of those scoring opportunities to turn into goals.
The defensive team effort was also helped by goalkeeper Kate Pomerinke, who had 8 saves on the afternoon.
The Knights would end up ceding two goals to Northwest late in the second half. One in the 79th minute, and another in the 84th minute. The two late goals would bring the game to its final score of 3-0.
The loss drops the Knights to 5-7-2 on the season. Warner is back in action again Oct. 21 when they take on University of Providence at noon at Eastside Timbers.
