PORTLAND, Ore.| One goal off the head of
Olivia Stumetz proved to be enough for Warner to secure the win over University of Providence on Friday.
The Knights asserted themselves early on offensively against the Argos. Freshman
Kiya Gramps helped lead the charge for the Knights to open the game. Gramps created good looks and fired off a flurry of shots to open the game, including one in the fifth minute off of the crossbar.
Warner kept the pressure up on Providence throughout the first half but ultimately couldn't get on the board.
The only goal of the game came in the 55
th minute when
Olivia Stumetz snuck a header past the Providence goalkeeper. The goal was the second of the year for Stumetz and came off of an assist from
Kiya Gramps.
The Knights defense held strong after taking the lead, anchored by goalkeeper
Kate Pomerinke.
Pomerinke had an incredibly strong showing in the net, recording 10 saves while earning her fifth shutout of the season.
The win puts the Knights at 6-7-2 on the year. Women's soccer is back in action for Senior Night on Oct. 22 when they host Rocky Mountain College.
