KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. | Playoff hopes were kept alive for the Knights thanks to two second-half goals in Warner's matchup with Oregon Tech on Friday.
The Knights come into the final weekend of the regular season vying for the sole remaining conference playoff spot. This weekend is no easy thing for the Knights, facing two strong teams who have already clinched playoff spots in the form of Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon.
The Knights fell to an early deficit, as Oregon Tech got on the board with a goal in just the third minute from Maddie Miller. Warner worked to create scoring opportunities for the rest of the half but were unable to respond, as the game went into the half 1-0 in favor of Oregon Tech.
The Knights tied things up thanks to a goal from Jackie Castellanos in the 67
th minute. Castellanos was able to strike on the rebound of a shot that went beyond the keeper and hit the left post. Amidst the chaos in front of the goal, Jackie was able to tap the ball in and tie up the game.
The game wouldn't remain tied for long as Oregon Tech responded quickly with another goal from Maddie Miller in the 70
th minute to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.
Warner Pacific fought back, however, and the Knights were able to tie things up again. This time the goal came from Kiya Gramps in the 74
th minute.
The game-tying shot from Gramps was not your everyday goal. The ball appeared to be partially deflected by a defender before bouncing off the left post. After hitting the post, the ball rolled across the front of the goal and somehow had enough backspin to roll into the back right corner of the net for a Warner goal. The physics-bending pool shot left the Oregon Tech goalkeeper befuddled and was undoubtedly what Gramps had in mind the whole time.
From there, the Knights were able to hold on, coming away with a 2-2 draw against the Owls.
The draw keeps the Knights' playoff hopes alive. The Knights are now 6-8-3 and must win tomorrow's game against Southern Oregon in order to make the playoffs. Warner squares off against the Raiders in Ashland at noon tomorrow.
