PORTLAND, Ore.| A strong second half helped the Knights defeat Multnomah 4-1 and stay undefeated on the year.
There was a lively atmosphere at Eastside Timbers on Friday as the Knights took on cross-town conference foe Multnomah. Fans brought drums and yelled all throughout the game.
The game saw the Knights fall to their first deficit of the year when Multnomah got on the board in the 23rd minute thanks to a goal from Michael Appiah.
The Lions early lead changed the complexion of the game. While the Knights kept charging with their usual aggressive offense, Multnomah significantly slowed their pace, attempting to run out the clock on the Knights in the first half.
With under a minute to go in the first half, the Warner's tenacity helped them to get on the board. A Multnomah penalty inside the box brought up Erik Mattice to attempt a penalty kick. Mattice scored on his kick to tie the game up at one moments before halftime.
Momentum shifted in the second half in favor of the Knights. Warner was able to create more opportunities than in the first half.
Those opportunities began to pay off and the second half saw the Knights tack on three goals.
In the 56th minute Andrew Martinez continued his incredible season by scoring on a beautiful header off of a pass from Nicholas Taugher to put the Knights up 2-1.
Warner got a little more breathing room in the 68th minute courtesy of a Hunter Leach goal thanks to an assist from Andrew Martinez.
The final nail for the Lions came from Antonio Cipriano-Ojendiz when he scored his second of the season in the 80th minute with Alain Murhula providing the assist.
The game was physical all throughout, but things came to a head in the second half. All seven of the games cards were issued in the second half. Warner Pacific earned three yellow cards while Multnomah received four, including two on Alejandro Jaramillo, which resulted in his ejection.
The win continues the Warner's perfect season and brings the Knights to 12-0. Men's soccer is back in action October 14 when they take on Evergreen at Eastside Timbers Complex.
