BUTTE, Mont.| The Knights had a dramatic start to their season, as a buzzer beater from
Isaac Etter gave the Knights a thrilling 71-70 victory over Montana Western on Friday.
 Â
Playing in Butte, Mont. as part of the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic, the Knights took on the Bulldogs for their first official game of the season.Â
Warner Pacific didn't hold a lead at all in the first half, but the action was close throughout. The biggest lead of the game for Montana Western came in the first half when they held an 8 point lead. That lead was steadily undone as the Knights chipped away with layups and the Bulldogs went 0-11 shooting, including 8 missed three-point attempts. Â
The back and forth action resulted in a one point lead for Montana Western heading into the half, 23-22.Â
The Knights took the lead three times in the second half. However, they didn't have much breathing room as they never led by more than one point during the game.Â
Leading the charge for the Knights was
Thomas Miles, who kept the Knights in the game down the stretch.Â
With the Bulldogs up 4 with 3:30 left in the game, Miles hit a three-pointer to bring the game within one. When Montana Western got another 4 point lead, this time with 1:47 left on the clock, Miles again brought the Knights back, hitting both of his free throws, grabbing three rebounds, and hitting a layup to tie the game with 10 seconds left.Â
With six seconds left in a tie game, Montana Western called timeout and drew up a play. The Bulldogs drove to the hoop and got fouled on a missed layup. The first free throw was good and put Montana Western up 70-69. They missed the second free throw, however, and the Knights got the rebound and called timeout with three seconds left on the clock. Â
With time working against them, Warner was in need of a big play. Â
The Knights got their big play in the form of an
Isaac Etter buzzer beater. Â
Warner's inbound pass went to Etter who flew down the side of the entire court and past his defender. Etter cut towards the hoop and went for a floater over a taller defender who met him in the paint. Â
Time seemingly slowed for the final sequence as the shot floated up off of Etter's hand, the buzzer went off, the ball bounced on the rim once, and bounced on the rim second time before finally going in to give the Knights the thrilling 71-70 win.Â
Isaac's buzzer beater topped off an impressive line for him. Etter finished second on the team with 19 points while also having two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.Â
Thomas Miles also had an incredible performance for the Knights. Miles led the team with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Miles was also very efficient in his scoring, shooting 61% from the floor and hitting all four of his free throws.Â
With the win, the Knights are 1-0 to begin the season. Men's basketball is back in action Nov. 5 when they take on Montana Tech.Â
