EUGENE, Ore.| No. 21-ranked Warner Pacific secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Evergreen to advance to the CCC Championship Semifinals on Tuesday.
After being rescheduled and relocated due to poor weather, the game got underway in Eugene as the Knights took on the Geoducks.
The Knights took control of the game early. Warner Pacific attempted nine shots, including a goal, in the first 27 minutes of play before the Geoducks attempted their first shot of the night.
The opening goal from the Knights came in the 22
nd minute courtesy of the recently crowned CCC Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, Andrew Martinez.
Evergreen tied up the game in the 31
st minute, scoring on a shot from Santy Armenta. The goal from Armenta was the only shot that the Geoducks attempted in the first half.
With Evergreen tying up the game, the Knights quickly tacked on two more goals before the end of the half.
In the 41
st minute, Erik Mattice regained the lead for the Knights with a goal off of a penalty kick. A minute and a half later, Antonio Cipriano gave the Knights some breathing room with a goal of his own coming off of an assist from Andrew Martinez.
Following the two quick goals, the Knights went into the half with a 3-1 lead over Evergreen.
Before it was all over Brendon Leach would tack on an insurance goal for the Knights in the 61
st minute to bring the lead to 4-1.From there, the score held and the Knights came away with the victory.
With the win, Warner advances to the conference semifinals where they will take on Southern Oregon on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7:00pm.
