Trio of Late Goals Gives Knights Win Over Bushnell

PORTLAND, Ore.| Persistence paid off for the Knights in their 3-0 victory over Bushnell on Friday.

The matchup against the Beacons did not get out to the usual start we've seen from the Knights this season. While in past games, we've seen the Knights score very early on, The Knights didn't strike for their first goal until the 80th minute.

Even though the Knights did their scoring late in the game, their usual offensive aggression was still present early on. The Knights controlled possession and attempted nine shots before the half. This pressure prevented the Beacons from drumming up anything offensively, as they recorded zero shots on goal all game.

The game was remarkably physical throughout. Bushnell racked up seven cards on the afternoon compared to just one card for the Knights.

The Beacons' physicality may have contributed to their late game collapse. In the 81st minute, Bushnell's Jay Jay Van Der Velde received his second yellow card of the game and was ejected from play.

Twenty seconds later, Hunter Leach scored his eighth goal of the season to get the Knights on the board with the help of an Andrew Martinez assist.

Leach's goal kick-started a late flurry of goals for the Knights, as Warner was able to score three goals in five minutes.

Kai Flugel scored his first of the year in the 83rd minute. Andrew Martinez finished the evening by extending his scoring streak and finding the back of the net in the 86th minute thanks to a Hunter Leach assist.

The win puts the Knights at 10-0 to open the season. They'll look to carry that momentum into tomorrow's huge conference matchup when they're at home against No. 19 Corban University.
