Portland, Ore. | The Knights brought their offense to the gym tonight putting up 72 points en-route to a 12-point victory over rival Multnomah tonight at Jim Skagen Court.
The Knights started the game shooting very well from the field making 6-12 shots winning the first quarter 19-11. After that, Multnomah made a little run while the Knights were sleeping on the job a little but the Knights woke up and built the lead back up and ballooned it to 17 late in the third quarter. The Knights in the fourth quarter unfortunately started getting careless with the basketball committing seven turnovers in the period letting the Lions crawl back to within 9 points but ended up running out of time giving the Knights the victory to move to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
"The team buy in defensively tonight was amazing," Head Coach Jimmy Smith said. "When you out rebound your opponent 47-24 and only allow 7 offensive rebounds in total, good things will happen. A good all-around team win."
The Knights spread the wealth scoring the ball tonight. All but three Knights scored at least one point and 4 were in double figures.
McKeeley Tonkin lead the way with 15 followed by 14 from
Emily Brown and
Larsa Guzman, and 10 from
Teirra Hicks.
Laurie Cren was close to making it five Knights in double figures with 9 off the bench to help the cause. Serena Sanches only had one point but she was active everywhere else grabbing 4 boards, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals.
The Knights shot the ball well tonight making 23-53 good for 43.4% from the floor. They also had a much improved day at the free throw line making 22-31 attempts good enough for 71%. This game was definitely something to grow on offensively as well as defensively. A part of the game that helped the Knights was the Lions foul trouble that they found themselves in. The Lions fouled early and often wracking up 26 total fouls. They had two players with 5, one with 4, and a handful with 3.
