Knights Play Well in Close Loss to #5 College of Idaho

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – December 16th, 2023

Portland, Ore. | Warner Pacific fell tonight to the #5 ranked College of Idaho in a close matchup by a final score of 90-83 in the final game before Christmas break.

The Knights started the game down early 11-0 behind the hot shooting of Samaje Morgan who scored the first 7 points of the game. After the start, the Knights settled down and started to play even with the Yotes keeping the score around 10. The Yotes went on an 8-0 to end the half leading 50-33.

The second half saw the Knights come all the way back from a 25 point Yotes lead with 16:58 left in the game. Matt Solomon was a huge part of the comeback scoring 21 out of his 33 points in the second half on 7-15 shooting including 6-8 from three point range. Sean Johnson also played a key role scoring 15 of his 21 points in the second half shooting 6-10 from the field including 3-6 from three. The 36 combined points from Solomon and Johnson combined with the Yotes shooting percentage being 35.7% in the half made the comeback a real possibility as the game got late.

A huge turning point in the game during the comeback was another and-one three made by Caleb Tyree-Morgan for his second shot of that fashion in as many days. That was Tyree-Morgan's only points of the game but they were 4 extremely clutch points that helped the Knights make things very interesting late. Unfortunately, the Knights rally stopped after coming back to within three with 35 seconds left. At that point they had to foul and hope the Yotes would miss free throws which didn't happen going 4-4 from the line down the stretch.

The Knights were led in scoring by Matt Solomon who had 33 huge points to give the Knights a punchers chance at beating one of the best teams in the country. He also gathered in 6 boards and had 2 assists. Sean Johnson was also in double figures with 21 points on 8-12 shooting including 5-8 from three.

Next Up
The Knights will enjoy a solid break from the grind to enjoy Christmas with their families and will reconvene to play Multnomah on the 30th of December at 7:30pm.
