The Knights Draw with Southern Oregon

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 15th, 2023

PORTLAND, OR | The Warner Pacific Women's Soccer team played a hard game in some intense heat today at Eastside Timbers Complex. They worked the game to hard fought 1-1 draw.

The game started out with a fairly quick goal by Southern Oregon's, Mia Ammons in the 13th minute. The goal was assisted by Frida Vargas. The Knights then played fairly even the rest of the first half and fought through the heat that was penetrating onto the field.

The Knights scored their goal in the 49th minute on a sweet goal by Kaitlin Hirasa. She took a shot about 20 yards out and it went about 25-30 feet in the air and somehow at the last minute dropped out of the atmosphere and into the back of the net for a very impressive goal.

"Tremendous effort from us today against a very good SOU team," Head Coach, Justan Wolvert, said. "We didn't play the prettiest game but showed up ready to battle and did enough to get a point. This was a tough opponent for us last season, so we're pleased with the growth shown. Looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow to get 3 points back at home."

The Knights had a chance to take the lead with about 45 seconds left in regulation when the Knights got the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper but unfortunately from just a few feet out, Shalece Easley wasn't able to put it in the back of the net. Southern Oregon had done a great job retreating and had a girl in front of the net to defend the goal and made it tough on Easley to score.

The Knights shot 5 total shots but all 5 were on target but unfortunately only one fell in. Southern Oregon took 15 shots and 12 of them were on goal. Litzy Gonzalez was very busy in the net making 10 saves and allowing just the one goal. Southern Oregon's goalkeeper, Ashlynn Hernandez, made 3 saves on the day allowing the one goal by Kaitlin Hirasa.
