Kirkland, Wash.| Warner Pacific played the first of two road games today against Northwest University. They entered the game on a small slump and were hoping to gain their early season momentum back. After a terrific display, they came up just short losing 77-78. To build experience in winning these types of games, you must first play in these types of games. Warner Pacific did not come away with a win tonight but gained important experience going forward.
In the first quarter, Warner played excellent led by
Teirra Hicks who scored 15 of the Knights 19 first quarter points. The Knights gave up some ground in the second quarter but went into halftime with a 1-point lead.
The third quarter played out like the second, but the spirit of the Knights in the fourth quarter to mount a comeback was something to be proud of. The Knights found themselves down 10 points with 2:36 left in the final quarter and fought back all the way with major help from
Emily Brown who scored 11 points including going 5-5 from the free throw line. The Knights actually completed the comeback when
Noah Harris hit a layup assisted by
Teirra Hicks. The lead was built upon right after that when
Laurie Cren hit two free throws after being fouled bringing the lead to 3. In the waning moments, Northwest hit a jumper cutting the Knights lead to one which was followed by an immediate timeout.
Coming out of the timeout with 11 seconds left, the Knights had an unfortunate error when
Teirra Hicks was called for a charge as she was attempting to score giving the ball back to Northwest with 6 seconds left. After a couple of technical foul shots were hit by Northwest, they took the ball side out and immediately turned it over due to a five second inbound violation. The Knights had a very good play run to try and win the game as time expired but unfortunately, Hicks missed the layup and the game ended with Northwest completing the Great Escape winning 78-77.
Hicks had an amazing game earning 25 points playing 31 minutes. She was 9-21 from the field including 3-7 from distance.
Emily Brown had 13 points including her 11 point 4
th quarter and
Amalya Sales had 12 points to round out the Knights in double figures.
