Women's soccer held on to a 2-1 victory against the Lions from Multnomah despite a goalkeeper change late in the game. The Knights were able to score one goal in the first half and one in the middle of the second that led to their victory against the Lions.
The first happened in the 17th minute, when
Kiya Gramps gave the Knights the lead. She was assisted by
Kylar Nguyen. The Knights scoring was then held until the 77th minute when defender
Payton Ashley found the back of the Lions net. This goal was aso assisted by Nguyen for her second of the night. Even though two goals were scored, the big praise goes to defender
Gwenyth Williford, who had to step up and play keeper for the Knights during the last 23 minutes of the match. She recorded two saves and gave up a goal which was just enough to keep the Knights ahead and assure the victory.
"This was a really gutsy performance from our team today," Head Coach Justan Wolvert said. "In a pivotal game for us, we showed up in a big way. It was a physical game from start to finish as expected and I was proud that we stood up to the challenge and kept our composure. Players stepped up today when their number was called. We'll continue our momentum and consistent play into next weekend."
The Knights will have the week off and play their next match on Friday October 18th against the Bushnell Beacons. This match is the first game of Senior weekend and will take place at Eastside Timbers Sports Complex at 12pm.
