FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - December 20th, 2024
Olympia, Wash.| The Warner Pacific Knights Women's Basketball squad brought on their first conference win right before the holidays as they took down Evergreen State college 71-65.
The Knights credit their win to a strong second half as they were losing 40-27 at halftime while losing by as much as 17 right before the end of the half. However, due to a strong offensive performance by Amalya Sales and Skylar Groesbeck the Knights were able to pull off the win.Â
The Knights were strong offensively and defensively this evening shooting a 34.5% from the field and an impressive 75% from the line. On the defensive end, the Knights were able to maintain position of 42 rebounds which led to 13 second chance points. Overall it was a great team game which included the bench who put up 26 points.Â
"All around a great team win," Jimmy Smith said. "You have to acknowledge the truth in the second half comeback. Intensity on the court increased which helped dictate the pace of play and the desire to compete. The energy translated off the court as well and when our energy is that high, good things can happen."
On the individual side, Amalya Sales scored 16 with four three's and 100% shooting from the line. Skylar Groesbeck followed close with 12 but put up defensive numbers as well with eight rebounds. On the defensive side, Alexa Mee accounted for nine of the Knights rebounds which kept them on the offensive side and led to their win.Â
The Knights will play again tomorrow at 3pm. They will take on the Northwest Eagles in Kirkland, Washington. They will then play their final game of the 2024 calendar year against Multnomah University on Monday, 12/30. Tip off is set for 3pm.
